MAP AND GLOBE SKILLS

Map skills are intended to be integrated into the curriculum as much as possible.

Objectives: The student will:

Read and understand symbols on a map and/or globe.

Learn to use a variety of special purpose maps.

Demonstrate knowledge of locating self in relation to familiar places using position words and cardinal directions.

Measure and compare distances on a map and globe.

Explain the various types of map projections, their uses, advantages and disadvantages.

Identify landscape features from a globe and map.

Infer various activities and means of earning a living from a map and globe.

Make predictions and draw conclusions from information on maps, graphs, and globes.

Apply map rules (Goode’s Standards) to record data on a map.

Prepare graphs from given data
